Mike Vick

"With the first pick in the 2001 NFL Draft the Atlanta Falcons select quarterback Michael Vick from Virginia Tech"

From first overall pick right into the Pro Bowl and leading his team to a 14-2 record and a chance to go to the Super Bowl, Mike Vick is the most electrifying athlete to ever step foot onto a football field.  The things he can do when the ball is in his hands is unbelieveable. He became the first player in history to rush for 1,000 yards and throw for 2,000 in the same season.  He also became the first quarterback to rush for 1,000 yards in a season.

The sky was the limit for Michael Vick until April, 2007 when he was taken into custody for allegedly fighting dogs in his Virginia home.  Michael not only fought dogs but also allegedly killed his dogs if they would lose by electricuting or drowning them.  Vick later admitted to the charges and was sentenced only 2 years in prison.  New commisioner Roger Goodell suspended Vick indefinitely without pay.  Not only was he suspended from the leauge but is on probation and cannot have an animal for at least 3 years.

As if prison time wasn't enough, Vick has recieved more verbal abuse than most men would not be able to handle.  No matter how much he tries he will never be able to get rid of the title "Dog Fighter".  It has blemished him for life and he can never take back what he has done.  Some people will always hate him, no matter his accomplishments on the field or how much he gives back to his community.

Vick was reinstated into the leauge in 2009 and later signed with the Philadelphia Eagles.  Knowing he probably wouldn't start for a couple years because of Donovan McNabb and soon-to-be quarterback Kevin Kolb.  Michael hardly seen action in 2009, but that offseason McNabb was traded and Kevin Kolb stepped in as starter.  When he went down with a concussion early in 2010, Vick finally recieved his shot to resurrect his career.   Although the Eagles lost, Vick was awarded with another chance to prove himself the following week.  Vick ended up being named full time starter.

Week 10 of the 10-11 season was when everyone realized Michael Vick was back to his old form.  Playing by far the greatest game in his career, and arguably the greatest Monday Night Football performance in the 30+ year history.  Vick torched the Redskins for 333 yards passing with four touchdowns, adding 80 yards rushing and another 2 touchdowns on the ground.

People tune into the Eagles games just to see what Vick will do next.  Rather its throwing for 4 touchdowns for pulling a spin move so quick it makes a tornado seem slow, making the best defensive tackle in the game look like an amatuer.

Michael will always have haters and doubters, that would love to see him fail instead of succeeding.  But not me.  I'm glad to see Vick back in the leauge making corners look silly, and leaving linebackers in the dust with the one of the quickest juke moves the NFL has ever seen.  I'm excited for this upcoming season (if there is one of course) just to see what Michael Vick is going to do next.

blogging on my phone again

This is the 2nd straight week I have blogged on my phone. Once again I am laying in bed watching sportscenter. Today was a pretty good day, the bulls beat the super stacked miami heat thanks to MVP Derrick Rose. Chicago fans haven't been this excited about a basketball season since Michael Jordan retired.

The NCAA tournament is coming up. Unfortunately I don't think any of the teams from iowa are making it ):
There is always next year though. I'm picking North Carolina to win it all, because Harrison Barnes is a beasttt.

Baseball season is starting soon, go Cubs!

This blog is terrible, its a bunch of random talkbout all different sports. Next week will be better, I promise.

i love my phone.

I was extremely busy this week and weekend and didn't have time to type a blog. Now its 3:31 in the morning and I'm typing this off of my phone. What am I doing up you might ask? I was playing xbox with a few friends until about two thirty and I have been laying in bed for the last hour watching sportscenter. Duke snider died today. He played for the dodgers in the 60's and 70's. These nerdy grown men are trying to say jousting is a sport. They are probably in their fifties and are making an argument for jousting being a sport. What has gotten into some people these days. I am not sure how many words this is and don't care. I'm going to get to bed now.

Wanna hear a joke? Womans rights. (:

Marijuana Legalization

I was watching a show on the History Chanel recently and it was about the legalization of marijuana.  The thing that really got me thinking was that Dutch countries that have it legalized make I think 1.2 million is what it said just from selling marijuana legally.  Every one knows how far in debt the United States is, if our country legalized it and sold it in coffee shops or gas stations, it would get our country out of debt.  Guarnteed.

I don't understand why alcohol is legal and marijuana is not.  There is more deaths by alcohol than any other drug in the United States.  As you can see here by this chart, alcohol is third in causes of death in the United States. To tobacco, which is also legal and obesity.
Tobacco435,0001
Poor Diet and Physical Inactivity365,0001
Alcohol85,000 1
Microbial Agents75,0001
Toxic Agents55,0001
Motor Vehicle Crashes26,3471
Adverse Reactions to Prescription Drugs32,0002
Suicide30,6223
Incidents Involving Firearms29,0001
Homicide20,3084
Sexual Behaviors20,0001
All Illicit Drug Use, Direct and Indirect17,0001, 5
Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs Such As Aspirin7,6006
Marijuana07
As you can see above Marijuana is at 0 deaths per year caused from smoking.  Alcohol and tobacco combine for a whopping 520,000 deaths a year,  but they are both legal. I'm not saying it should be legal so I can smoke it, but that it should be legal because it would get our country out of debt.

I'll be Taking my Talents to South Beach

"There's no way, with hindsight, I would've ever called up Larry [Bird], called up Magic [Johnson] and said, 'Hey, look, let's get together and play on one team", Quote from the greatest basketball player of all time, Michael Jordan.

No matter what sports channel you watched over summer, all there was to talk about was LeBron James heading to Miami to team up with two other all-stars Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh.  Magic Johnson was quoted saying "From college, I was trying to figure out how to beat Larry Bird. I would never team up with him."

I understand why LeBron made the decision to go to Miami, he wanted to win some rings, but all people will remember about James is that he did it with two other high caliber players.  Sure Michael had Pippen and Magic had Kareem, but Pippen and Kareem do not match up to Bosh and Wade.  Everyone who watched basketball in that day knew the Bulls were Jordans' team not Pippens'.  And when people would think about the Lakers, they though Magic Johnson not Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

If I was in LeBron's shoes, I would have chosen to stay in Cleveland.  He was born and raised in Cleveland, all of his family lives in Cleveland.  If he could of won 3 or 4 rings with the Cavaliers he would of be considered one of the greatest ever, but now even if he wins 10 rings he won't be anywhere near MJ status. No

To me LeBron James is a fraud, a phony, and a sellout.  I used to love seeing LeBron highlights and see him hit the game winning shot, but now it's no fun because the Heat should be winning every game, not gitting game winners.  They have one of the most dominant teams ever made. No NBA fan outside of the Heat fans want to see them win, it certaintly wasn't the right thing to do, it ruined his legacy and the sport because they have proven recently that they cam win games and will be a dominant team in the years to come. People will lose interest in the NBA because it will be the same team winning over and over again.

LeBron was a two time MVP because of his ability to carry his team to the Eastern Conference Finals, and the best record in the leauge back to back seasons, not because he can team up with former Finals MVP Dwayne Wade, and all star Chris Bosh to win a championship.  James is no longer looked at the same way by me, or a lot of NBA fans.  He's a joke, and a coward.  He was quoted saying, "I want to be known as one of the greatest of all time, not by individual accomplishments but because my ability to be a good teamate and win rings."  He can never be known as one of the greatest ever now because of his ridicoulous decision to go to Miami and team up with all stars to win rings.

Brett Favre

The regular season of the NFL is over and once again, Brett Favre is retiring. Every year since 2007 he has retired, and every season he believes he can come back and do it again. He went to the Jets in 08, only to have a dissapointing season. He started the season off having one of the best of his career, only to finish the season with a 1-4 record and missing the playoffs.

And again he retires, only to come back to the Minnesota Vikings and have his best season statistically in his 20 year career. Throwing for 33 TD's and only 7 INT's taking his team all the way to the NFC Championship only to lose on a game winning FG in overtime to the super bowl champioin New Orleans Saints.

Being the smart man the Brett his, he reitred again going out on top this time.  But the Viking captains: Jared Allen, Steve Hutchinson, and Ryan Longwell flew to his house in Mississippi and convinced him out of retirement. Only so he could go from one of the top quarterbacks, who has NFL records for most passing yards, most TD's and most consecutive starts, to his worst season ever. Missing his first ever game after being hit by Buffalo linebacker Arthur Moats and then a week later given a concussion after being sacked by Bears DE Corey Wooton.

It was one of the worst things to see, one of the greatest quarterbacks ever being helped off the field, looking miserable. Me and just about every football fan are sick of the same thing every offseason, Favre retires, Favre comes out of retirement.  Every year its the same thing. We all know your one of the greatest ever, you have nothing else to prove.  Watching Brett play this season was like watching a giraffe slowly die.  It was very depressing.  It wasn't the same joyful kid were used to seeing, running up and down the field lifting the receivers high in the air after a touchdown pass.  Just give up Favre, your career is over.
